We encourage innovation by connecting our site to the first industrial steam network in the Antwerpen port area (Ecluse). As the first connection point on the right bank of the Scheldt, we facilitate the future expansion of this waste-to-energy steam network to other interested companies. In addition, we are committed to a feasibility study to redefine wastewater management, with the aim of creating decentralized, circular water networks (CHERISH2O project). We seek and maintain partnerships that are beneficial to all parties.

By connecting to the new Ecluse steam network, we can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 255,000 tons annually, an important step toward our 2030 sustainability goals, both for the Antwerpen site and for the entire Evonik Group and our partners in Chemiepark Lillo. We promote sustainability with a circular process water system made from municipal wastewater. This saves up to 2.5 million m³ of fresh water, which is made available to the community (Waterkracht project). Antwerpen also continues to seek new climate measures, such as the transition to renewable energy with a second wind turbine and an industrial heat pump, in order to achieve CO2 neutrality by 2050.
